The project Energy4Growing (E4G), funded by the Polisocial Programme of Politecnico di Milano, aims at studying, developing and setting up an off-grid power system to supply electricity to the school of Ngarenanyuki, a rural village in Northern Tanzania.
Specifically, the project investigates a hybrid micro-grid architecture suitable to interface renewable energy technologies and energy needs in the most reliable way while exploiting advanced regulations and control techniques.
The hybrid micro-grid, installed in April 2015, combines the power generation systems already available in the school (i.e. a run-off-river micro-hydropower plant and a back-up petrol generator) with new installations of PV panels and lead-acid battery pack together with an Interface Converter.
